Dear Senator/Representative,

The attached letter to President Bush was signed by 19 heads of U.S. Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant churches or church-related agencies. The Christian leaders commend the President’s leadership on helping to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They urge him to challenge and encourage Israeli Prime Minister Sharon and Palestinian President Abbas with an evenhanded firmness to carry out their Road Map obligations and not to prejudice final status negotiations.

The letter is sent at a time of hope and opportunity, spurred on by Israel’s planned withdrawal from Gaza and the Palestinian Authority’s efforts to confront terrorism. The signers of the letter urge Congress and the Administration to help maintain this momentum, by working together with the Quartet partners to help ensure that progress on the Road Map continues, paving the way for negotiations between the two parties.

We look forward to working cooperatively with you and all members of Congress to give President Bush bi-partisan support in his efforts to help Israelis and Palestinians achieve a two-state solution to the conflict.

Sincerely,

Corinne Whitlatch

Executive Director
