Thank-you Letter to Senators for Palestinian Election Resolution ~February 4, 2005~
February 4, 2005 Attention: Legislative Assistant for Foreign Relations Dear Senator, Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) greatly appreciates your leadership in co-sponsoring S. Res. 27, commending the Palestinian people’s election of President Mahmoud Abbas. The Senate’s support of “efforts to increase United States assistance to the Palestinian people” and “its intention to work with President Abbas to help the Palestinian people realize the opportunity for a more peaceful, prosperous future” will surely help Israelis and Palestinians take advantage of new prospects for peace. Churches for Middle East Peace also commends the Senate’s reaffirmed commitment to President Bush’s “vision of two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security.” CMEP recently organized a letter to President Bush from Christian leaders, (delivered to your office and published in the New York Times). They wrote, “This is the time for you and for the 109th Congress, and for friends of Israel and Palestine, to have the courage to be peacemakers, and to press both Israelis and Palestinians to seize the future; where each recognizes the other's right to exist and is willing to work together for security and economic well-being.” We look forward to working with you in the coming months. Sincerely, Corinne Whitlatch Executive Director
