Deputy Director

Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP), is seeking a full time Deputy Director. CMEP is a coalition of 22 national churches and church organizations that advocates directly with the Congress and the Administration for strong U.S. leadership to help end the Israel-Palestinian conflict.  The Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director and will have the following responsibilities. 

Government Relations and Policy:

  • Develop and implement CMEP’s legislative strategy by building and maintaining relationships with Members of Congress and their staff, arranging and participating in regular Hill meetings and cooperating with like-minded advocacy organizations.

  • Track legislative issues and monitor U.S. and Middle East policy developments.

  • Work with the Executive Director to carry out CMEP’s broad advocacy agenda and in writing and producing CMEP policy statements.

 Communications and Advocacy:

  • Manage, in cooperation with CMEP’s Executive Director and Field Director, CMEP’s communications with grassroots advocates nationwide, including informational bulletins and action alerts.
  • Prepare written advocacy guidance and educational materials for advocates and church groups. 
  • Participate in planning and execution of CMEP’s annual advocacy conference and conduct advocacy trainings and presentations.

Administration:

  • Assist in maintaining CMEP’s website content.
  • Provide support in producing CMEP resources and materials, including the quarterly newsletter.
  • Help supervise the work of the Staff Assistant.

 

Requirements:

We are seeking a mature, energetic and resourceful person with experience working on Capitol Hill or for an advocacy organization.  The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to CMEP policy positions and have background in Middle East peace issues, preferably with an interest in working with churches and church constituencies. The individual will have strong organizational, writing and communications skills and have the ability to respond quickly and effectively to complex and shifting situations.
