ACTION ALERT: Advocacy and Prayer Request from Jerusalem
~May 30, 2007~ The Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem have issued an appeal to the Christians of the Holy Land and across the world, asking all to “intensify action, particularly for negotiation, to end Occupation” and establish an independent Palestinian State, "thus giving both Peoples, Israelis and Palestinians alike, human dignity, security and equal opportunities." . Additionally, they ask Christians “to make this period one of specific and diligent prayer for peace in the Holy Land.” During this period when attention is turned to the 40th anniversary of the 1967 war that resulted in the occupation by Israel of Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, Churches for Middle East Peace encourages and facilitates your advocacy for peacemaking and prayers for peace with the following guidance. YOUR ADVOCACY FOR PEACEMAKING Enlist others. Flood the White House with calls for Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking. Call or email a message to President Bush: 202-456-1111 or comments@whitehouse.gov.I appeal to the President to take diplomatic action now to stop the spiraling Israeli-Palestinian violence and restore hope for peace. The Arab League Peace Proposal opens the door for Israel-Palestinian negotiations that can end the occupation and lead to a two-state solution. Without vigorous peacemaking, violence fills the vacuum. The time for action is now. YOUR PRAYERS FOR PEACE From the International Church Action for Peace in Palestine and Israel Help us Lord to end Occupation- not by revenge , not by hatred – but through seeing you in each other as Palestinians and Israelis, Jews, Christians and Moslems, and to accept each others humanity whilst mutually recognizing each others religious, civil, political, and national rights, for Jesus' sake. Amen From CMEP’s “Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem” Prayer Card My brothers and sisters, grateful for the gift of life and peace, let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for the coming of the new and eternal city where God will be all in all: For the Church of God, that she may work and pray for the peace of Jerusalem, we pray… For the Mother Church of Jerusalem, that she live out her vocation to build-up the peace of Jerusalem, we pray… For political leaders, that they may take bold initiatives for the peace of Jerusalem, we pray… For zealots on all sides, that they may put aside their animosities and be still for the sake of Jerusalem’s peace, we pray… For peacemakers, that they may have courage and perseverance, we pray… For Jews, Christians, and Muslims that they may learn to be at peace with one another in the Holy Land and here in theUnited States, we pray to the Lord, For all those who have died attempting to bring peace to Jerusalem and the Holy Land, that they may rest securely in the bosom of Abraham. Amen. CMEP Home CMEP Members E-mail Alerts Government Contacts CMEP Letters Statements ~ Churches for Middle East Peace -- 110 Maryland Ave., NE #311 - Washington, DC - 20002 -- 1-202-543-1222 ~ |
