From June 7-9, 2009, over 170 Middle East Peace
advocates gathered at the Kellogg Conference Center at Gallaudet
University in Washington, D.C. for the 2009 CMEP Advocacy Conference.
The conference theme, "Israeli-Palestinian Peace: Hope for Things Unseen",
was inspired by Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped
for, the conviction of things not seen." The annual conference offered a
needed opportunity to reflect on the challenging and complex situation in
the Holy Land.
The conference was also held at an opportune time politically. The 111th
Congress and the Obama Administration provide a new opportunity to help
Israelis and Palestinians stop the tragic cycles of spiraling violence and
diplomatic stalemate and move forward on a path toward peace. During the
conference, CMEP advocates held 75 visits with their elected officials to
educate them about the situation in the Holy Land and urge them to work
for peace in the region.
